How it works

Using the each way bet calculator

Pick the bet type and type your stake. Say whether that stake is per line or the total you want to spend, then enter the odds of each horse and how it ran: won, placed, lost or non-runner.

Tick each way to double the lines: one part pays if the horse wins, the other if it places. The place part is settled at the place terms on offer, usually a quarter or a fifth of the win odds.

Full-cover bets like a Lucky 15 are broken into every single, double, treble and four-fold, so the calculator shows how many lines you are paying for and which of them land.

Example: A ยฃ1 each-way Lucky 15 is 30 bets for ยฃ30. With one winner at 6.00 and one placed horse at 9.00 (1/4 terms), the singles return ยฃ11.25 and the each-way double adds ยฃ6.75 on the place part, ยฃ18.00 in all.

FAQ

Questions people ask

What does each way mean in racing?

It is two bets of the same stake: one on the horse to win and one on it to finish in the places. If it wins, both parts pay.

How are non-runners settled?

A non-runner is treated as odds of 1.00, so the stake rolls on to the remaining selections in multiples and is returned on singles.

How many places pay each way?

It depends on the field: usually 2 places for 5 to 7 runners, 3 for 8 or more, and 4 in big handicaps of 16 or more.

Lucky 15 or Yankee?

Both use four selections. A Lucky 15 adds the four singles to the Yankee's 11 multiples, so one winner still returns something.
